Katy Bircher : flute
Katy Bircher is a leading performer on early flutes, working regularly with many UK early music ensembles in repertoire ranging from Dowland to Wagner. She has appeared throughout Europe, the USA and the Far East and has performed concertos with the European Brandenburg Ensemble, La Serenissima, Concerto Caledonia, the Kings Consort and the Academy of Ancient Music.
In 2007, Katy took part in a world-wide tour and recording (Gramophone Award 2008) of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos under the direction of Trevor Pinnock.
As principal flute of the Gabrieli Consort and Players, she has contributed to many award winning recordings, notably Bach’s Easter Oratorio and St Matthew Passion, Mozart’s C minor Mass and Haydn’s Creation, all on Deutsche Grammophon.
A highly respected teacher, she is professor of the baroque flute at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Birmingham University and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and has given masterclasses in the UK and abroad.
