Oakki Lau : violin

Oakki Lau’s performing his career reflects his interest and enthusiasm for all kinds of music.  He plays with La Serenissima, London Handel Orchestra English Touring Opera, Reggae Philharmonic, Urban Soul Orchestra and Random Dance Company. Chamber music performances have taken him to Handel House Museum, The British Library, Gresham College, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Berlin Philharmonie and The Wigmore Hall.

Oakki has performed with many baroque groups including Florilegium, Hanover Band, New London Consort and Norsk Barokkorkester.  Recent recordings include Britten’s War Requiem with the Gabrieli Consort, Judgement of Paris with Spiritato, and A Tale of Two Seasons and Le Quattro Stagioni with La Serenissima.  He has also appeared as guest-leader with the Little Baroque Company.

He has appeared on stage with Barry Manilow, Gloria Estefan, The Divine Comedy, Marc Almond, Mel C, Nitin Sawhney and Take That.  Broadcast live on BBC Radio 2’s Janice Long Show with the band Paris Motel, and on BBC Radio 3 with the contemporary group Reservoir. He has performed at the BBC Electric Proms, Latitude and Glastonbury festivals and toured New Zealand by invitation of the British Council.

Oakki studied the viola with, and also assisted Rivka Golani in London,   baroque violin with Adrian Butterfield and baroque viola with Annette Isserlis at The Royal College of Music where he was supported by the Joan Weller Award. He is principal viola of Southern Sinfonia and London Orchestra da Camera.  He has been a member of La Serenissima since 2011.
